Having worked in the field of bariatric surgery for over 10 years I am struck by how few people have access to a psychologist to help them prepare for, and adjust to, the life changing experience of bariatric surgery. Whilst bariatric surgery is usually a very positive step, it is inevitable that it involves significant psychological adjustments and challenges. These include a different relationship with food, getting used to changes in eating behaviour and weight, body image, relationships and self-esteem. I wrote this book in order to plug the gap in psychological support and to help people develop the practical tools and strategies that will assist them on their journey.
